From Panna National Park (No.23) near Khajuraho in the north to tribal Bastar and the Indravati National Park (No.1), 80km west of Jagdalpur in the far south, the region represents a unique concentration of natural wealth and wonder in constant need of protective care.

Pench National Park (No. 16), 92 kms from Nagpur on the National Highway to Jabalpur, is shared between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The principal entrance and best nature lodge (Bagh Van) are at Turia in MP's evocative Seoni District. See Lodges & Resorts.

Guru Ghasidas National Park (No.13) is the result of a bifurcation since the separation of Chattisgarh State from Madhya Pradesh in November 2000. Of the former Sanjay National Park, some 60% is now located in the former state of Koriya, now a district of Chattisgarh, and has been renamed after the state's Satnami reformist hero Guru Ghasidas (1756-1850). The remainder, still known as Sanjay NP, is in MP's Sidhi District.

Bhoramdeo WLS (No.24) is a new Wildlife Sanctuary near Sahaspur-Lohara in the Chattisgarh District of Kawardha, a former princely state closely bordering the buffer zone of Kanha National Park (No.15) in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

Important Notice (Season 2006-2007): Security concerns in the southern Chattisgarh district of Dantewara mean that Indravati National Park (No. 1), Pamer (No.2) and Bhairamgarh (No.3) Wildlife Sanctuaries are not presently accessible. Changes in the current conditions will be advised.
